Chaga Tinder Fungus

Chaga Tinder, also known as tinder fungus, is the name given to a particular cold climate fungus, Inonotus Obliquus, that grows on birch and alder trees.
Chaga makes particularly effective tinder material because of its dense, fibrous composition which allows it to easily catch a spark and hold an ember. Chaga burns slowly, rarely with a flame, releasing an almost aromatic scent. Many folks (including yours truly) like to burn a little piece of tinder fungus now and then like incense.
Chaga is also known for its medicinal properties and has a very high ORAC or "Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity". This is a scale that indicates the amount of free oxygen radicals in your body that a food supplement is capable of absorbing.
Many adventurers will speak of the flavorful beverage that can be made from tinder fungus when out on the trail. This can be made by steeping some of the material in hot water, much like making tea.
