Tinder Refill for Survival Kits

This Tinder Refill package contains 10 pieces of tinder. Each piece will light even when wet and burns approximately 1 to 2 minutes depending upon conditions.

Using Tinder Quick:

1. Take 1 piece of Tinder Quick in both hands by grabbing the curved sides between each thumb and index finger in a pinching grasp.
2. Gently pull the fibrous tinder apart to loosen but not fully separate.
3. Expand and fluff the Tinder Quick piece so that it will readily accept a spark. Continue this fluffing technique until the tinder is a ball slightly larger in diameter than a quarter.
4. Next, place the fluffed Tinder Quick into a cup-shaped bundle of dried grasses and very small twigs.
5. Using a Spark-Lite or flint and steel striker, ignite the Tinder Quick and tinder bowl then place this into the heart of your kindling.
6. As the fire gains strength, gradually add larger pieces of kindling and then branches and logs.

In a survival situation, conserve valuable resources like matches and tinder by attempting to start camp fires with available naturally-occurring tinder and kindling first. (Check out the Fire Videos volumes 1 & 2 elsewhere on our site.)

Select dead branches, loose bark (birch or cedar) and dried grasses. Avoid wood lying on the ground that has absorbed moisture. It will be too difficult to ignite.
